Shaking devices are used to mix liquids in vessels. The shaking can be done either with one vessel or, for series experiments, with several  vessels simultaneously. When combined with an incubation cover, the simultaneous tempering of samples is also possible. Shakers are often used for medical examinations as well as in biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, bacteriology, virology, haematology, and coagulation physiology. Typical examples of shaker usage are:

* Sample preparation in water / waste water analysis
* The production of suspensions and emulsions
* Intensive mixing of liquids with varying densities
* Extraction, elution
* Homogenous mixing and intensive gas exchange
* Mixing of precipitation in centrifugal tubes
* Reproduction of aerobic organisms
* HIV tests
* Examining allergens

The shaking effect on the medium depends on the type of shaking, the orbital diameter, and the speed range.
